Balance work equipment in exercise is a fairly recent trend (see: BOSU, stability balls, etc. etc.). These are fiendishly difficult and are a great way to add extra challenge to a workout. Think your balance is good? Try doing stationary lunges with your front foot on a disc or squats with both feet on discs (while someone spots you, of course). The abs must be engaged, the legs must work harder to complete the move, which makes the move more effective and makes for a nice changeup if you're sick to death of lunges and squats. More importantly, having good balance is a really vital component in doing everyday activities and preventing injuries.
The product is sturdy, easily portable, and a good way to add variety to an exercise routine; it's a great addition to a home gym, especially for those who travel often.
