(More customer reviews)Backpacking and comfort don't always go together as there are compromises to make to manage both size and weight issues. The Exped Pillow Pump is a great addition if you own or buy any of the Exped sleeping mats with the large flat valves. The lighter weight mats such as the Synmat 7 UL and the Synmat 7 basic are good weight to insulation value for backpacking, but both must be blown up by mouth. The Synmat 7UL weighs a slim 16.2 ounces and provides an insulation value of R-3.1 good for weather down to the mid-20's. By adding less than 6 ounces with a Pillow/Pump it allows you to inflate the Symnats without blowing humid air into them, or wasting your breath when higher altitudes might want you to not want to blow for a few minutes to inflate. The pump works easily and quickly to inflate the mat, and then it becomes a very comfortable pillow with adjustable firmness. It is the first camping pillow I have found comfortable enough to justify bringing it along. At a mere 6 ounces, it does double duty for inflating the mat and at the same time a comfortable pillow after a long day on the trail. Comes with it's own stuff sack and repair kit. If you don't have the Exped Mats, it won't work with the twisty valves on thermarest and other mats. Exped makes a plain (no pump action) pillow for those who don't need the pump. It is so small and light that it really isn't a hard decision to stick it in my pack. Sure you can do without it, but if you like a pillow when you backpack, this is a great one.
