Disc Traction Therapeutic Belt- Size Medium (34"-40" Waist) Review

Disc Traction Therapeutic Belt- Size Medium (34-40 Waist)
Average Reviews:

In my opinion, the Velcro belt should go through a metal loop and double back on itself. I threw out my lower back and have tried my traction table, an inversion table, heating pads, portable traction and this belt.
To be honest, I bought this belt to attach it to my inversion table so I don't have to hang by my ankles. A quick trip to a camping store provided the nylon and Fastex fasteners necessary to adapt this belt. It actually works pretty good but with my full body weight the Velcro almost comes loose.
If used as the manufacturer intended, the belt is adequate. Of all of my traction devices, this one is the least effective and requires the most effort.

True Back, Trueback Non-powered Orthopedic Traction Device Review

True Back, Trueback Non-powered Orthopedic Traction Device
Average Reviews:

I have had trouble with my back for years. Ideally, I would like to go the chiropractor every week but simply cannot afford it. This device decompresses my spine and takes all the tension out of my back. Each time I use it and get up, I have an incredible feeling of well being.
It takes only about 5-10 minutes each day and I feel great. The first time I tried it, it felt like a torture device but I believe that my body was that far out of wack. By the 3rd session I leaned to relax on the True Back and allow it to perform as it was designed.
It is not a substitute for a chiropactor but certainly has made it possible for me to go very long periods without having to see my doctor.
Give it a try. It has changed my life and just might help you too.

Stretch Mate Orthopedic Back Stretcher Review

Stretch Mate Orthopedic Back Stretcher

This is without a doubt the worst product that I have every ordered online
It cost fifty seven dollars Canadian currency of which twenty five dollars was delivery.
It is made from cheap Chinese plastic and broke the first day
The plastic housing where the bolt goes in snapped off
I discarded the receipt so I have not tried contacting As seen on Tv personal
I would not recommend this product, It came with no instructions,is poorly made and was probably produced for about two dollars.
I have chronic back pain and my pain must have impaired my judgement
In the future I will purchase only from stores where I can actualy see and feel the product

Saunders Lumbar Traction Hometrac - Deluxe Review

Saunders Lumbar Traction Hometrac - Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Through the years I have had issues with my back. I am a surfer. I have had experiences where I do nothing more than bend to the side and all of a sudden that spasm feeling takes hold and I can barely stand up straight. It can take up to two weeks for the pain to go away and the muscles/bones to go back into place. I had a bad experience with a Chiropractor years ago and I was really afraid of them. After returning from a vacation last year which ended in the same back spasms, I finally decided to give the Chiropractor a chance to take away this pain. I was lucky enough to find one that was able to put the bones back into place. I was able to move properly and the pain was gone in one day.
A friend of mine who also happens to be a surfer/bicycle enthusiast and in his 50's, has worse back issues than me and he told me about the Saunders Hometrac lumbar unit. It sounded like just the thing for me as we may be moving to an area where it will be very difficult to get to a Chiropractor. I have tried it out several times when I feel that my back is getting a little sore and maybe starting to go out or just not quite right and IT IS GREAT! I had a hard time working in the yard and now I barely feel anything after bending over for long periods of time. Even surfing and light lifting no longer leave me with a sore back. This unit stretches the body in the lumbar area and pulls everything back into place.
I will provide the information I was given (use these at your own risk as I have : ) as there is no information in the instructions. I'm assuming it must come from your doctor even though these can be purchased without a prescription. I weight about 190 lbs. and am 5'11" tall. I was told never to pump the pressure up more than half your body weight. At 190 lbs. that would be 95 lbs. For me, I feel that is too high . Start out your first time at 20 lbs. pressure for 10 minutes, then 40 lbs. for 10 minutes. I'm good at 40lbs but 60 should be OK too. This should not be a painful process. The two units will start to pull apart gently easing the lumbar area and hopefully for you, putting your back at ease. You may be a bit sore for a little while after but by the next day I was back in perfect condition for me. Again, the above information is from my experience only. I'm sure your Dr. or Chiropractor can confirm the proper pressure for you if you feel necessary. Please start slowly and I hope you feel the relief I have. Good luck!

Lumbar Extender Back Stretcher Review

Lumbar Extender Back Stretcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've tried similar fixed-height extenders made from dense foam, as well as inversion and traction devices, and this one has them all beat. The unit is definitely very portable, and having 3 levels of adjustment is very nice. Though it does take a bit of strength to set it in the highest position, it's not a major issue. The instructions are thorough and include multiple variants for different levels of stretch. The effectiveness of spending 5-10 minutes a day relaxing on this is amazing, and I am completely free from back pain. This is definitely my favorite new toy, and considering it costs less than 2 trips to the chiropractor, it's a great investment.
Update, May 6, 2010
I was reviewing my reviews this evening, and yes, this is still one of my favorite possessions. I don't need to use it much these days, but I still have it and it could be sold "as new", not that I would. I really wish more products were constructed with this level of excellence and durability. Thank you to the team behind this product.

North American Healthcare JB4866 Arched Back Stretcher Review

North American Healthcare JB4866 Arched Back Stretcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This item looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. It arrived in just a few days, and I pulled it out of the box along with the one-page instruction sheet. The instructions aren't too extensive, but give you a general idea of what to do. In a nutshell, you lay on it. :)
So I put it on the floor and laid on it like in the picture. It really didn't look like it would do much, I guess because the arch didn't seem that high- but boy was I wrong- this thing really stretches your back! In fact its downright deceiving how much of a stretch one actually gets.
But that's not the end of the story. I, like others, found several things out right away. First, you'll need a pillow to support your head. I don't know how the lady in the picture is able to tolerate that position- maybe its one of those CPR dolls you practice on? Without a pillow, your head tilts back and can make you a little dizzy. A therapist told me that this is because your vertebral arteries (which help get blood to your head) "thread" through your neck vertebrae, and in some people, when you tilt your head back too much/too long, they can get pinched somewhat which can decrease the flow of blood to your head and make you a little dizzy- so just be careful and grab a pillow before you lay down.
The other thing I found out is that you have to "play around" with the positioning. For some people who are really tight, they'll just lay down and hit it right the first time- but this won't be everybody. Expect to spend a few minutes tinkering around with it (by sliding it up and down which is easy to do) to find your sweet spot- that being where its most comfortable/where you feel the best stretch. Those who just throw the thing on the floor and just lay on it expecting miracles to happen might be a little disappointed with the product.
The back popping thing. A therapist also told me that this happens when the tiny joints in your back seperate a little- same as when you pop your knuckle. This is a good thing because the "pop" usually brings pain relief for a lot of people. And since the pop means that the joint has seperated a bit, that stretches the joint capsule (the tissue around the joint) and that means you're actually loosening things up as well. Probably the best way to get the pop is to bring your knees up towards your chest as you're laying on the extender, OR you can try laying on it, and get your feet/knees into the position like you're going to do a sit up, and then roll your knees together either to the left or right down to the floor. In any event, don't force anything, and some people's back are simply harder to pop than others depending on how/where they're tight. Either way you're still stretching out your back. And don't forget you can also lay on the extender ON YOUR SIDE too.
A sturdy piece of equipment, and professionally upholstered in my opinion, Arched Back Lumbar Stretcher Extender, Model# 83-4866V should benefit many if used properly. One note though. The extender will stretch, relax your back, and make it more flexible- but it won't do anything to strengthen it. For that, suggest Treat Your Own Spinal Stenosis for some good back exercises.

Carex Lumbar Support Cushion Review

Carex Lumbar Support Cushion

I am sitting in my office chair a lot. This sure helps my back. I felt the difference in just a couple of days. I bought extra ones for my car and my wife's.
Only drawback of this product is that the strap does not help to keep the cushion in the right position. You just have to keep adjusting it whenever siting down.
